The Indian cricket team finished 2024 as the year’s most successful T20I team by a distance. Recording 24 wins in just 26 matches, including two in Super Over battles, the ‘Men in Blue’ also lifted the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA with an unbeaten run.

Notably, it was Jasprit Bumrah, a seasoned speedster, who was declared the ‘Player of the Tournament’ for his heroics in India’s triumphant crusade, thus signifying the role of bowlers in the team’s recent success. Celebrating Team India’s decorated T20I calendar year and the contribution of its bowlers, here we take a look at three certain cricketers who delivered the best bowling performance in an innings during the 12-month period.

Best T20I Bowling Spells By Indians In 2024:

3. Ravi Bishnoi 4-13 vs Zimbabwe, Harare

Young Indian leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi picked up his career-best T20I figures during his splendid outing against hosts Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club in July. Roughly a week after India’s 2024 T20 World Cup triumph in the West Indies, a young ‘Men in Blue’ bunch travelled to Zimbabwe for a fresh five-match chapter. In the series-opener itself, Bishnoi rocked Zimbabwe’s top-order with the key wickets of Wessly Madhevere and Brian Bennett before mopping up the tail to claim astonishing figures of 4-13.

Bishnoi’s tight and wicket-laden spell restricted Zimbabwe to just 115-9 from 20 overs upfront. Unfortunately for the youngster, Indian batters failed to complement his efforts by falling 13 runs short of their target.

2. Arshdeep Singh 4-9 vs USA, New York

Indian seamer Arshdeep Singh snared 17 wickets at the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA to finish the high-profile tournament as its joint highest wicket-taker. Remarkably, the speedster picked up four of those wickets at an expense of just nine runs during India’s Group A match against T20 World Cup co-hosts USA at New York’s Nassau County International Stadium

Sharing the new ball with Mohammed Siraj, young Arshdeep picked up two wickets in the opening over of the match, and snapped Nitish Kumar’s threatening stay at the crease later in the innings. The 25-year-old also got the better of USA’s number seven Harmeet Singh to claim his career-best T20I figures. Additional wickets from Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel restricted USA to just 110-8 upfront, allowing India’s star-studded batting line-up to secure a comfortable seven-wicket win with 10 balls to spare.

1. Varun Chakravarthy 5-17 vs South Africa, Gqeberha

Indian leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy picked up a fighting five-wicket haul, also the first of his T20I career, during the second match from India’s tour of South Africa in November. Emboldened with a 1-0 lead in the series, Team India accrued just 124-6 from 20 overs at Gqeberha after getting invited to bat first.

Chakravarthy, who picked up a match-winning three-fer a couple of days earlier at Kingsmead, kept halting South Africa’s seemingly-easy pursuit with timely breakthroughs. The cricketer picked up a wicket in each of his first three overs, and dismissed dangermen Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller in the final over of his spell to claim remarkable figures of 5-17.

Chakravarthy’s spin enchantment reduced South Africa to a troublesome 86-7 in their chase of 125 as Team India sniffed a potential 2-0 lead in the series. Unfortunately for the spinner and for the visitors, South Africa’s eighth wicket pair of Tristan Stubbs and Gerald Coetzee overcame the nervy phase to pull off a dramatic three-wicket win in the penultimate over.
