The venue hosts the Australian Football League, International and Big Bash League, soccer, and rugby league and union. 

With 60,000 seats and a fans-first approach in design and technology, Optus Stadium was awarded the Most Beautiful Stadium in the World in the 2019 Prix Versailles international architecture awards. Moreover, recently it was also named the Best Stadium in the Austadium Stadium Awards 2025.

Officially inaugurated on 21 January 2018, the stadium's total capacity is 61,266, including standing room, making it the third-largest stadium in Australia (after the Melbourne Cricket Ground and Stadium Australia). On top of that, the stadium can be extended up to 65,000 seats for rectangular sports.
