Yousef Majid, who is currently a part of the Surrey Academy was awarded a short term professional contract in the 2022 summer. The contract came after he took ten wickets in the Second XI Championship games which included a second innings 6-54 at Radlett against Middlesex.

Yousef was given an opportunity to play for the Club on a short-term contract during this year’s Royal London Cup. He made his List A debut in August 2022 in the RLDC against Leicestershire at Guilford. The youngster took a wicket off his fifth ball on his debut.

The left arm spinner has been more than impressive with his controlled, accurate bowling. He took nine wickets in the competition. Majid picked up the Surrey Academy Player of the Year at this year’s Club Awards Evening.

Alec Stewart reflects on the signing

Director of Cricket at Surrey CCC, Alec Stewart said:

“Yousef has been in and around our group for the last couple of years and the progress he has made during this period has been great to see. We’re pleased that he has signed a contract with the Club and look forward to him continuing his development as a cricketer.”

He was called up to play for the England U19s against Sri Lanka this summer, where he took three wickets in the Youth Test Match.
