In recent development, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming Women's Asia Cup.

Chamari Athapaththu will lead the squad, which is an amalgamation of youth and experience.

The squad features only three changes from their CWG squad. Wicketkeeper-batter Kaushani Nuthyangana, left-arm seamer Tharika Sewwandi and all-rounder Madushika Methtananda come in for the veteran pairing of Ama Kanchana and Udeshika Prabodhani and Vishmi Gunaratne.

While Gunaratne was forced out of action due to a suspected stress fracture in the back, Kanchana and Prabodhani were dropped due to poor form run. 17-year-old Gunaratne is one of the highly rated all-rounders in the Sri Lankan cricketing circuit. But a recent MRI highlighted the injury, following which the board decided to rest the youngster.

The team also has exciting 21-year-old right-arm leg-spinner Rashmi Silva who is expected to make her debut in the series.

After a disappointing outing at the Commonwealth Games, Sri Lankan women would be hoping to have a much better campaign at the Asia Cup.

The showpiece event will take place from October 1 to 15 in Bangladesh, with Sri Lanka set to take on India on the opening day.
