Rajasthan Royals opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, has been in sensational form in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. With a remarkable display of skill and determination, the 21-year-old left-handed batsman has amassed an impressive total of 575 runs in just 12 matches, including one century and four fifties.
As a result, he finds himself trailing behind Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Faf du Plessis by a mere single run in the race for the prestigious Orange Cap this year.
Hailing from Mumbai, Jaiswal has taken the tournament by storm, leaving cricket enthusiasts in awe of his skills. He etched his name into the record books by smashing the fastest fifty in IPL history, achieving the feat in a breathtaking 13 balls during his unbeaten knock of 98 runs against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on May 11.
The young opener will be in action against the RCB at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday. This match holds immense significance for both teams, as they desperately need a victory to bolster their chances of advancing further in the tournament.
However, for Jaiswal, this match presents an opportunity to achieve a remarkable batting milestone in the history of the IPL. The talented youngster is on the verge of surpassing former Kings XI Punjab batter Shaun Marsh's record of 616 runs scored in a single IPL season by an uncapped player.
The Aussie veteran, during the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008, etched his name into the record books with this exceptional feat, and now Jaiswal finds himself on the cusp of breaking this long-standing record. With his current tally of 575 runs, the young southpaw needs just 42 runs against RCB to surpass Marsh’s record.
Jaiswal has already achieved remarkable milestones in his IPL journey. During his unbeaten innings of 98 runs against KKR, he surpassed Ishan Kishan's record of most runs (516) by an uncapped Indian in a single IPL season, elevating himself to the second position in the all-time list.
Considering his magnificent form, the 21-year-old looks poised to make his debut for the Indian cricket team in the upcoming months. The young prodigy is likely to be included in India's ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against Afghanistan in June.
