WTC Final 2023 | Ajinkya Rahane's ''Dream'' Comes True as He Earns Call-Up to the Test Squad

Former Indian Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane's desire to represent the nation again was fulfilled on Tuesday after he was named in the squad for the World Test Championship Final, which will take place against Australia between June 7-12.

Following his inclusion, an old interview of Rahane went viral on social media, where he had expressed his desire to play Test cricket for India again.

"I will never give up. Dream is still to play for India. But, I also want to stay in the present" said Rahane.

Rahane returns to the Test set-up after a gap of 15 months.

The former vice-captain was dropped from the Test set-up following the culmination of the series in South Africa in January 2022, which India heartbreakingly lost 1-2.

Rahane was handed the axe after a prolonged period of mediocrity with the bat, both at home and away.

But, with the likes of Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer not available due to their respective injuries, the selectors have gone back to the veteran Mumbaikar to fill in the vacancy in the middle-order.

Rahane hasn't had the best of times in England, and especially at the Oval, the venue for the WTC final. In 6 innings, he has registered three ducks at the venue.

However, Rahane will go into the final high on confidence given his path-breaking exploits in the Indian Premier League for the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings, and the former vice-captain will hope he brings out his very best version in the final against his favored opponent, Australia.
