The first edition of the ongoing Women's Premier League (WPL) 2023 has largely been a success and shows how much potential female cricket has in India. However, the WPL did not get off the right foot with the Deandra Dottin controversy, regarding her deal with the Gujarat Giants.

The West Indies international was purchased by GG at the auction for INR 60 lakhs, only to be dropped ahead of the tournament, citing medical clearances. GG roped in Australia's Kim Garth in their 2023 squad.

Now, in a social media post on Twitter, Dottin has made some explosive revelations about her exclusion from the WPL.

Apart from explaining her health concerns and the whole fiasco that happened, the 31-year-old further went on to express shock towards the Giants' management.

It might be noted the support staff for Giants' consists of former players like Mithali Raj and Rachel Haynes.

Excerpts from Dottins post

“To my shock, I was then forwarded email correspondence from the Giants’ physiotherapist, that included the following demand “Deandra Dottin is strictly advised to submit her fitness report along with the recent scan by 26/02/2023. She will be deemed unfit for T20 matches in the WPL if she doesn’t comply."

“Furthermore, I am bewildered as to why, having been cleared to resume training by multiple surgeons, it was insisted upon by the franchise that I repeat medical testing and produce medical clearance that had already been provided."

It will be interesting to see if the Gujarat Giants respond to Dottin's claims. She has played 143 ODIs, and 127 T20Is for West Indies, amassing 6,424 runs and picking up 134 wickets since 2008.
