On Sunday, the Indian Women's team welcomed another rising star with open arms. Tanuja Kanwar debuted for the Women in Blue during their clash against the United Arab Emirates in the Asia Cup 2024 at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla.

The 26-year-old bowler came in as a replacement for the right-arm off-break bowler Shreyanka Patel, who was ruled out from the tournament after sustaining an injury to her finger while fielding during the clash against arch-rivals Pakistan.

One of the travelling reserves, Tanuja, was as jolly as one would be when Renuka Singh handed her the debut cab before the game began. Luck was in her favour as she bowled brilliantly during the game and also picked up the wicket of Esha Rohit Oza, the captain of UAE.

Who Is Tanuja Kanwar?

Hailing from Himachal Pradesh's Tanuja Kanwar is a slow left-arm orthodox bowler who debuted for India against UAE during the Women's Asia Cup 2024. She plays for Gujarat Giants in the Women's Premier League, where she bagged a whopping prize of INR 50 lakhs.

Interestingly, she was the highest wicket-taker for her team during WPL 2024, taking ten wickets in 8 games at an economy of 7.13.

Moreover, she grabbed the attention of viewers after her commendable performance during the Senior Women's One Day Trophy, where she represented Railways. The title-winning squad sure enjoyed her services, as she picked up 18 wickets from eight matches at an economy rate of 2.43.
