As the unparalleled brand of world cricket, Indian batting great Virat Kohli is constantly in the news. However, not all that the viewers read about their favourite star is right. On at least two occasions, the modern-day maestro has himself called out such "fake" news and reports made in his name.

Early last year, Kohli directly addressed a leading newspaper for reporting a fake news which had him and his wife and Bollywood star Anushka Sharma allegedly building a cricket pitch at their Alibaug farmhouse near the couple's Mumbai residence.

Kohli dismissed the report via a story post on Instagram which included a screenshot of the reported claim. The player expressed his disappointment since this was a newspaper he had trusted for every morning read since his childhood.

When Kohli Called Out 'Fake' News

"Bachpan se jo akhbar padh rahe hain, woh bhi fake news chaapne lage ab (The newspaper I’ve been reading since childhood has also started putting out fake news)," Kohli captioned in his post, which attracted a lot of flak for the organisation on social media.

The media had also reported that Kohli and Anushka's Alibaug Farmhouse had been build for a whopping sum of INR 19.24 crores and is spread over 8 acres of land. The newspaper claimed that Kohli was involved in the construction of the house and stated he desired a cricket pitch inside it.

It was also last year that Kohli had to issue a Tweet rejecting a claim in the media that he charges a jaw-dropping INR 11.45 crores for his Instagram brand posts. Kohli's net worth has constantly being posted by media houses, which have mostly turned out to be false.

Kohli, who has been in tremendous form since the ICC World Cup 2023 in October-November, will be back in action with the upcoming five-match Test series against England, starting January 25 in Hyderabad.
