In a heartening revelation, Indian cricketer Shubman Gill shared a touching moment with former captain MS Dhoni following his disappointing debut in 2019. Gill, reminiscing on the 'Dil Diyan Gallan' show hosted by Sonam Bajwa, recalled feeling dejected after scoring only 9 runs in his maiden ODI match against New Zealand in Hamilton. India suffered a crushing defeat, being bundled out for a mere 92 runs.

Gill, then just 18 or 19 years old, found himself downcast on the sidelines when Dhoni, known for his astute leadership and empathy, approached him. Gill recalled,

"Mahi bhai came and saw that I was very sad. Your debut was better than mine," he told me. With a golden duck against Bangladesh, Dhoni, who himself had a difficult beginning to his international career, brought some lightness to the situation with his signature humour."

The gesture deeply touched Gill, who found solace in Dhoni's words amidst the disappointment. It was a moment of mentorship and camaraderie, highlighting Dhoni's supportive nature towards younger players.

Gill's revelation sheds light on the unseen camaraderie within the Indian cricket team and the mentorship role played by senior players like Dhoni. Despite the initial setback, Gill's career has since flourished, showcasing his talent and resilience on the international stage.
