Punjab Kings have taken top position on the points table with a convincing win against Mumbai Indians in Jaipur. They won the game by seven wickets, and have made it to the Qualifier 1. The splendid performance from Punjab Kings has brought back memories of Shashank Singh's famous interview with Shubhankar Mishra before IPL 2025.

In that conversation, Shashank Singh very confidently mentioned that they will finish in top-2 at the end of the league stage. Shubhankar Mishra, the host, was also surprised when Shashank Singh made that claim as Punjab Kings have been the perennial underachievers of the IPL. They last made it to the playoffs in IPL 2014, so the hopes were pretty low from the franchise ahead of the season.

However, Punjab Kings had a clear-cut plan before the start of the season. They retained only two uncapped players, Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh. Ricky Ponting was appointed as a head coach and the Australian led the way by bringing in an IPL winning captain, Shreyas Iyer. The auction planning was also spot on and they ended up creating a formidable arsenal.

Shashank Singh might have gained confidence after that auction, and in conversation with Shubhankar Mishra he told the host that he will text him after the 14th match. The reporter warned Shashank Singh that he will not back away from trolling if they do not make it to the top-2, but Shashank was confident and his prediction has been proved right on May 26.

The win against Mumbai Indians was a product of a clinical performance from Punjab Kings. Their bowlers bowled with great discipline, and kept MI in check throughout the innings and got a target of 185. Prabhsimran Singh could not do much in the chase, but Priyansh Arya and Josh Inglis smashed fifties, and Punjab Kings eventually won the game by seven wickets.
