As the cricketing community sees a change in the coaching staff of Mumbai Indians, former New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond looks back fondly on his tenure and the relationships he's forged, particularly with young wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan.

Shane Bond unveils Ishan Kishan's nickname and their camaraderie

Bond, who has been instrumental in shaping MI's bowling strategies, expressed the warmth and camaraderie he shares with Kishan. The duo's rapport has been a prominent feature of the team, with playful banter and mutual respect at its core.

The former Kiwi pacer highlighted that Kishan's friendly nature and the humorous interactions they share have made their bond special.

Recollecting a humorous incident from a Netflix documentary, Bond mentioned that MI's strength and conditioning coach, Paul Chapman, had once teasingly referred to a young Kishan with a playful nickname. That name has since stuck, becoming a light-hearted term of endearment within the team.

"I love Ishan. He is a funny guy. I love the banter I have with him. Chappy (Paul Chapman) called him a d**khead (laughs). If you're being a d**khead, you're being a d**khead (laughs). We still call him a d**khead, but it's out of love. When you spend time with these players, you make good friendships,” said Bond while speaking on the YouTube channel 'Wake up with Sorabh.'

Meanwhile, in a significant shift for the Mumbai Indians camp, Sri Lankan legend the franchise's veteran Lasith Malinga is set to don the coach's hat, taking over from Bond.

Malinga, renowned for his toe-crushing yorkers, will also extend his coaching skills to the MI Cape Town team in the upcoming edition of the SA20 next year.
