'I Just Think..', Stuart Broad Predicts 2023 World Cup Winner; It's Not England

The stage is set for an exciting World Cup 2023. Based on current form and historical trends, many believe the host nation, India, holds a distinct advantage.

Recent performances have only added to this speculation, with India clinching the Asia Cup 2023 and securing a series victory against Australia. England, the current holders, have also shown promise, emerging victorious in a four-match ODI series against New Zealand.

Former England pacer Stuart Broad has recently weighed in on the competition in his column for The Daily Mail. Broad believes that it would be a monumental achievement if England manages to clasp victory and retain their World Cup title.

However, the star player's sentiments seem heavily tilted towards India playing an impeccable tournament that could potentially make them unstoppable. The hosting advantage, along with India's current top-notch form, makes them a formidable adversary.

"If England manage to retain their World Cup title, it will be a phenomenal effort but my overriding feeling is that if India play their perfect tournament, they are going to be very difficult to stop. Jos Buttler certainly has the team to challenge, one with the ability to post high totals, but I just think India, as hosts and the top-ranked ODI side, will be a hugely difficult proposition to get past," said Broad.

Broad further highlighted the team's challenging draw and the incessant city-to-city travel, unlike other teams who enjoy the privilege of a more settled schedule.

However, with the round-robin stage ensuring each team faces off against every other, England missing out on the semi-finals would be a severe blow.

"Contrast to England. Without sounding like I am giving them excuses, they have got a pretty tough draw, to be honest. They do not play two games in the same location, instead travelling from city to city. Others have the luxury of being able to book in somewhere for a week and play two games. They do not. But the fact every team plays everyone else in the round-robin stage means England would be absolutely distraught not to make the semis and final," concluded Broad.
