When Jadeja's Career-Best Test Figures Earned Him 'Player Of The Match' Against Australia

Ravindra Jadeja's excellent spell of 5/41 in the fourth-innings of the Rajkot Test against England reiterated his greatness and earned him a much-deserved 'Player of the Match' trophy after having also produced a magnificent century in the first-innings.

It was a stellar comeback for the Saurashtra lad and the great Indian allrounder in his home town after going down with a hamstring niggle and missing the previous Test in Visakhapatnam and one that reinforced the man's status as the comeback king for India.

Around the same time in February last year, Jadeja made one of the most special comebacks in Test cricket with an exceptional run during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India.

When Jadeja Bagged POM Trophy In Delhi Against Australia

The 35-year-old, who had been recuperating from knee surgery for the best part of the previous four months, roared against the Australians, taking 22 wickets at just 18.86 apiece.

It was during this marquee four-match Test series that the modern-day stalwart also produced his career-best figures of 7/42 in the critical third-innings of the Delhi Test. Jadeja rained on Australia's parade just when they were beginning to take the ascendancy in the second Test.

Having taken a one-run lead, the Australians finished Day 2 with opener Travis Head (43) and Marnus Labuschagne (35) establishing their control over the proceedings. However, on a pivotal third morning, Jadeja showcased his class and ran through the visiting batting line-up to pull off a memorable turnaround.

Combining with his longstanding spin partner Ravichandran Ashwin, the Rajkot left-arm spinner skittled out the tourists for only 113 runs and set up a tricky but insignificant chase for Indian batters in the last innings, which they aced with six wickets intact.

Jadeja's outstanding burst not only won him the 'Player of the Match' trophy but also helped India retain the coveted BGT crown with an unassailable 2-0 lead taken in the four-match series.
