Despite being regarded as a 'Gentleman's game,' cricket is not immune to unsavoury incidents involving players, coaches, and others. Such instances tarnish both the sport and the individuals involved, and these issues extend beyond the playing field to off-field matters. As cricketers gain popularity, they sometimes find it challenging to navigate the pitfalls associated with stardom.

The downsides of fame often manifest in various problems, as not everyone can handle the limelight gracefully. While some stars thrive in the spotligt, others may get carried away and make controversial statements.

When Pandya-Rahul made controversial remarks on Koffee with Karan show

In 2019, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya found themselves at the center of controversy due to their statements on the famous reality show 'Koffee With Karan.' The sixth season of Karan Johar's show, featuring the first-ever appearance of cricket players, took an unexpected turn when certain remarks by Rahul and Pandya sparked significant backlash.

Aired on January 6, the episode attracted attention not only for crush confessions and marriage predictions but also for the inappropriate comments made by the duo. While Rahul maintained composure and carefully chose his words, Pandya's boasting about multiple relationships and openness with his parents led to a massive outcry.

The episode was subsequently removed from the streaming platform due to the controversial remarks made by Pandya. The comments were labeled as 'crass' and 'misogynistic,' prompting widespread condemnation from audiences.

Pandya, KL faced backlash

After this incident, both Pandya and Rahul faced severe backlash on social media, resulting in their suspension before India's first ODI against Australia. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took disciplinary action, recalling the players from the Australia tour and imposing a fine of INR 20 Lakhs each.

Additionally, they were directed to contribute INR 20 Lakhs towards cricket for the blind. Ombudsman D.K. Jain instructed them to donate INR 1 Lakh each to the widows of 10 constables from the paramilitary forces who lost their lives. Later their suspension was lifted by the board.
