Ravindra Jadeja, one of IPL’s highest-paid players, was once handed a one-year ban from participating in the competition.

Starting out in the inaugural chapter of the tournament back in 2008, the cricketer shot himself to unprecedented stardom under Shane Warne’s guidance, by playing a crucial role for Rajasthan Royals in their maiden title triumph. Moreover, the then youngster did so barely two months after starring in India’s win at the 2008 Under-19 World Cup alongside Virat Kohli.

However, Jadeja soon found himself under troubled waters when he tried negotiating a higher deal from Rajasthan Royals for the subsequent seasons.

Throwback to Ravindra Jadeja’s IPL ban

As per IPL guidelines, players are not allowed to negotiate deals with other franchises during trading windows when they are already under contract with a particular franchise. Seemingly unaware about the aforementioned rule, a young Ravindra Jadeja started negotiating with other franchises as he was not content with the amount the Royals had offered him in their two-year contract extension following his breakout inaugural performance.

As one can expect, his negotiations with other camps did not went down well with the IPL officials and authorities, who handed the cricketer a one-year ban from participating in the competition. Owing to his expulsion, Jadeja missed out on IPL 2010 and was roped in by a new franchise, Kochi Tuskers Kerala for the 2011 season.

However, the defining moment of Ravindra Jadeja’s career occurred when he was acquired by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2012. To date, the legendary all-rounder continues to remain an integral member of the MS Dhoni-led team, as his final-over batting exploits helped the ‘Yellow Brigade’ to bag their fifth IPL crown earlier this year.

Jadeja is also one of the highest-paid IPL players in the world at the moment, considering he earns Rs.16 crore per season for the CSK.

So far, the dynamic southpaw has played 226 IPL matches. Having harvested 152 wickets at an impressive average of 21.55, Jadeja has also scored 2,692 runs at an average of above 26.
