The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials are set to meet current team captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar to decide the future of Indian cricket.

Sharma recently led the Indian team at the 2023 World Cup at home, where their emphatic unbeaten run was halted by a rampaging Australian unit on the day of the final in Ahmedabad. Following India’s humiliating loss, the skipper has been reportedly granted freedom by the BCCI to decide on his T20I future.

BCCI set to meet Rohit Sharma to chart India’s future

Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar will reportedly have a meeting with BCCI officials either on December 3 or December 4 to discuss the future of Indian cricket. Sharma, currently 36, is unlikely to stay around and will lead the team till the 2027 World Cup in South Africa.

According to a report from Sports Tak, the meeting will be held to chart a course for the next four years, and the primary agenda for the same will be to identify Sharma’s white-ball future as well as to identify his successor as captain of the team.

The next ICC event lined up for the Indian team is the 2024 T20 World Cup, set to be held in the West Indies. While captain Sharma has already opted himself out of India’s white-ball home series against Australia, one can assume that the dashing opening batsman is considering dissenting from the premier multi-nation tournament as well.

Moreover, the Indian team is also slated to play the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan, which marks the next big ICC ODI event following the conclusion of the recent World Cup.

As of now, the ‘Men in Blue’ are lined up to tour South Africa for an all-format series featuring three T20Is, three ODIs, and two WTC Test matches. Considering the forthcoming Indian tour, the board is also expected to discuss the team’s combination, injury replacements, and wicketkeeping options in place of Rishabh Pant.
