Delhi Capitals have retained India’s Under-19 World Cup-winning captain, Prithvi Shaw, ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions.

The 24-year-old, who made his IPL debut in 2018, had a forgetful campaign in IPL 2023, in which he tallied 106 runs across eight matches, having averaged 13.25. Yet, the Capitals, as reported by the Times of India, think tank kept their faith in Shaw, who was retained before the mega auction at a whopping price of INR 8 crore.

Earlier this year, Shaw was hurt on his knee while representing Northamptonshire in a one-day championship match against Durham. Since then, he has been injured, missing the majority of India's domestic cricket season as a result.

However, Shaw is expected to be fit by IPL 2024, if not before. The upcoming edition could be a now-or-never for him, considering many of his batchmates and youngsters, including Shubman Gill, have reached greater heights since his arrival in international cricket.

Each and every franchise will finalise their retained and released players by November 26, as the IPL governing committee has set a deadline for it. After that, they will battle it out on December 19 in Dubai, where all ten franchises’ officials will gather for the auction.
