It was a historic defeat for the India Women as the Australia Women had their cards up their sleeves while chasing down a mammoth total of 278 runs during a Women's World Cup match in 2022. Three 50+ scores from Idnia Women batters and still it wasn't enough to restrict a hungry Women in Green.
As Alyssa Healy came down to chase India's total, she was upright in her aggressor mode from the very beginning, bashing balls out of the park. She bagged 72 runs from 65 balls to already slash on India's hopes. Rachael Haynes partnered to weaken Mithali Raj & Co.
Alyssa began, Lanning nailed the coffin
India had their moment of hope though, when they had a breakthrough with Alyssa Healy's wicket in the 20th over. However, it was a futile try to stop a hungry beast. Meg Lanning walked in as the doomed fate of India and resisted every try from India to break her down.
Lanning formed a brilliant 103-run stand with Ellyse Perry to come up with a 97-run stand from 107 balls, all of it screaming class with 13 boundaries. India was desperate for the win. They scalped wickets yet, those were all in vain since Lanning and Healy wrote the fate for the team. When Beth Mooney smashed the winning runs with three balls to spare, it felt like an inevitable script that gutted India from the very start of the chase.
For India, their 'Big Sister' Australia gave them a harsh reality check. Three fifties from Yastika Bhatia, Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet Kaur, a competitive total, and a die-hard try to scalp wickets. Yet, none of it mattered against a team that simply didn't know how to lose.
