Rohit Sharma's six-hitting abilities are world renowned. When the Hitman enters the beast avatar, no bowler on the face of the globe is good enough to stop him. Ask New Zealand's veteran pacer Tim Southee, who once failed to withstand the Indian opener's wrath despite 10 required off 2 balls to defend in the Super Over.

The instance dates back to the third T20I of India's early 2020 tour to New Zealand. After the scores were levelled, India's ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah emerged expensive for once and conceded 17 runs off his six balls in the Super Over contest. However, Rohit managed to resurrect ground for India when he smashed the experienced Kiwi pacer for a pair of maximums at the end.

Despite hitting eight off the first four balls in the Southee over, Rohit stood tall on the bowler's attempted yorkers and hammered them over the ropes for two consecutive sixes, helping India take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.

When Rohit Smashed Southee In Super Over Thriller

For the first six, Rohit hung back deep inside the crease in anticipation of the yorker and clobbered the ball over the mid-wicket region at the Seddon Park in Hamilton, which shifted the pressure completely on Southee.

Most bowlers would've adjusted their length after that but the Kiwi stalwart stuck to his guns and backed his successful method. However, he was in the same fate when Rohit once again got underneath the delivery and timed it supremely over the long-off fielder for six.

It remains one of the iconic moments in Rohit's T20I career for India. The elegant right-hander was in his true elements at the time and looking ripe for a prolific trip across the Tasman sea. But an untimely hamstring injury put paid to his run before the Covid-19 pandemic stalled the world and confined leading cricketers to their homes.
