The world has witnessed MS Dhoni's calm demeanour amidst the high-octane cricketing games in packed stadiums. Now, the celebrated former Indian cricket captain is steering his passion and precision to a different playing field – the farmlands of Ranchi.

Why did MS Dhoni choose to do farming in Ranchi?

Having traversed roles that range from being a businessman, film producer, to an honorary Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Territorial Army, Dhoni's latest avatar as a farmer typifies his ever-evolving nature.

In a recent video that is going viral on social media, Dhoni shed light on his journey into farming, attributing it to two main factors: his inherent love for cultivating crops and the ample free time he had during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I come from a small town. From the childhood, we had proximity to farming was there. It was not a new concept for. As far this farming is concerned, we started before Covid hit. We had land of around 40 acres but were were farming on just 4 to 5 acres. During Covid, when I had time in my hand, I felt this is a right time to enter farming full time,” said Dhoni.

It was during the pandemic-induced break in 2020 that Dhoni realized the potential of the vast land they had and decided to engage in farming full-time. The Indian veteran added that he was fascinated by the growth cycle of crops, particularly the rapid sprouting of bhindi (ladyfinger).

“Seeing a crop like bhindi (ladyfinger) grow overnight is truly fascinating. It's intriguing to witness such rapid growth and transformation. This whole process has made me even more passionate about farming and that's when I decided this was something that I definitely wanted to do in my whole 40 acres of farm,” added the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain.
