Harry Brook is a special player, and he showed his worth once again in the ongoing first Test against New Zealand at Mount Maunganui.

Jonny Bairstow's injury in September last year, turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the dashing batter, and he grabbed his opportunity with both hands.

The Yorkshireman had a stellar series against Pakistan in December 2022, and continued his majestic form against the Kiwis.

After opting to bowl first, New Zealand struck early in the form of Zak Crawley. But the in-form Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope resurrected the England innings. Duckett was dismissed for a well compiled 84, and Pope and Root were sent back to the hut in quick successions, but Brook took over the mantle and has looked rock solid in the middle.

Currently batting at 79, he has struck 14 boundaries, but what caught the eyes of the spectators was his stunning strike against Tim Southee.

In the 45th over, Brook was batting at 70, when Southee bowled a length ball, closer to the off stump. With the mid-off fielder inside the circle, Brook took his chance and tonked him over long off.

He took a step out, extended his arms and dispatched the ball well over the fence. It wasn't just the six that was special, but the confidence to do it against a world-class bowler, under difficult circumstances is mind boggling.

At the time of Dinner break, England are 279 for 5, with Brook unbeaten at 79.
