Wasim Akram Wins Hearts Through Epic Analogy Between Shubman Gill and Sachin Tendulkar

The rise of Shubman Gill in world cricket has been exponential, to say the least. The batter has reached unprecedented heights of late, performing admirably across formats. The youngster from Punjab earned massive accolades following his onslaught in the recently-concluded IPL 2023, where he garnered 890 runs, playing a key role in guiding Gujarat Titans to the final. Considering his carnage in the tournament, fans and experts have started comparing him with legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar.

Meanwhile, former Pakistani fast bowler Wasim Akram has drawn an analogy between Gill and Tendulkar. Speaking to Sportskeeda, Akram, one of the greatest seamers of all time, explained that Gill's ability to score briskly through textbook shots makes him as unique as Tendulkar. He also expected the 22-year-old to stamp his authority in every format.

Here's how Akram praised Gill

"When I bowl to a player like Gill, even in T20 format, it's like I am bowling to Sachin Tendulkar in one-day cricket in the first 10 overs, when only two fielders were allowed (outside the 30-yard circle)."

"If I had to bowl to Jayasuriya or Kaluwitharna, I knew I had a chance. I can get them out as they hit on every ball. But, players like Sachin and Gill, they play proper cricketing shots. I think he is the kind of player who can score in all three formats consistently. He is a future superstar of world cricket."

Gill, who had an outstanding IPL season, will be seen opening the batting with Rohit Sharma in the much-awaited World Test Championship final scheduled at Kennington Oval on June 7.
