Sri Lanka have suffered a significant blow as ace speedster Lahiru Kumara has been ruled out of the second ODI against Afghanistan due to injury. Notably, Kumara, who suffered a cramp on his left hamstring during the first ODI of the series, hasn't recovered yet and will, therefore, miss out on the do-or-die face-off scheduled today.

In a tweet posted by SLC's official social media handle, it's mentioned that the bowlers' fitness will be assessed before releasing an official statement on his participation in the third ODI.

Here's what SLC tweeted

Team Update!

Lahiru Kumara, who suffered a cramp on his left hamstring while bowling during the 1st ODI, will not be available for selections for the 2nd ODI as the player is still recovering.

The team's medical staff will assess the bowler's fitness before making a decision on his availability for selection for the 3rd ODI.

Kumara's absence could certainly dent Sri Lanka's chances of winning this fixture, as he leads the Lankan pace attack alongside Kasun Rajitha. Rated highly for his scorching pace and ability to hit the deck hard, Kumara has scalped 24 wickets in 19 ODIs.

Meanwhile, the first game between the two sides saw Afghanistan crush the hosts by six wickets, riding on a scintillating knock from Ibrahim Zadran. Therefore, Sri Lanka would be desperate to seal a win and stay alive in the series when they take the field today.
