In a massive setback for Royal Challengers Bangalore, stand-in skipper Virat Kohli got out for a first-ball duck against Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing group-stage fixture between the two teams in Bangalore. His nemesis Trent Boult, who has dismissed him several times in international matches, got rid of him for the first time in the IPL.

The toss went in favour of Rajasthan Royals, who invited hosts RCB to bat on M Chinnaswamy stadium's batting-friendly deck. However, the Royals' trump card Trent Boult provided them with a massive breakthrough, dismissing Kohli in the very first delivery of the game.

The legendary New Zealand seamer kept it straight and simple and bowled an inswinger in the middle stump line at the full length. Kohli's decision to take his front foot across the line and play around proved fatal for the batting talisman, as he was trapped plumb in front of the stumps for a golden duck.

Virat Kohli ducks in IPL

Overall, Virat Kohli has registered ten ducks in the IPL. He recorded one duck in 2008, 2016 and 2017 and three in 2014 and 2022.

However, Kohli had a prolific IPL 2023 prior to this game, amassing 279 runs at an impressive average and strike rate.

Meanwhile, Boult has struck for another time, dismissing Shahbaz Ahmed, who was promoted up the order to bat at number three. As of writing, the hosts are reeling at 20 for two, with Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis batting on 8* and 10*, respectively.
