In a remarkable turn of events, veteran opener Tamim Iqbal has become the first player from Bangladesh to breach the 15000-run mark in international cricket. Tamim, who holds the record for the most international runs for his team, achieved the phenomenal feat during Bangladesh's ongoing Test match against Ireland.

Most Runs for Bangladesh

  • Tamim Iqbal: 15014 runs in 442 innings
  • Mushfiqur Rahim: 13866 runs in 477 innings
  • Shakib Al Hasan: 13798 runs in 451 innings
  • Mahmudullah: 9986 runs in 397 innings
  • Mohammad Ashraful: 6655 runs in 310 innings

Opening the batting alongside Najmul Hossain Shanto, Tamim struck two fours and a solitary six for his flamboyant 36-ball 21 before being dismissed by Ireland's premier off-spinner Andy McBrine. Thus, although he unlocked the aforementioned milestone, the stylish southpaw couldn't ensure a solid start for his team, reeling at 34 for two at stumps on day 1.

Tamim, who debuted in an ODI against Zimbabwe way back in February 2007, has been a mainstay for Bangladesh across formats. Overall, he has 5082, 8210 and 1758 runs in Tests, ODIs and T20Is, respectively.

Notably, the 34-year-old recently retired from T20Is just prior to the World Cup in Australia and will play a crucial role for his side in the upcoming ODI World Cup in India later this year.
