The injury list for Team India keeps growing as Shreyas Iyer becomes the latest inductee. The Indian middle order batter will have a surgery on his injured back and as a result will miss the entire IPL season and the WTC finals against Australia in June.

It has been understood that Shreyas Iyer will travel abroad for his back surgery and is expected to be ruled out for at-least three months.

Iyer has had injury issues in the last few years. He missed the last Test of the Border-Gavaskar series due to back issues and missed the ODI series against Australia as well.

The back injury also troubled him post the Bangladesh tour last December.

On both the occasions, Iyer experienced swelling on his lower back. There was a bulge in one of the disc in his spine which has resulted in an impinged nerve.

The injury has caused mobility issues and it could potentially keep him out for the remainder of the year as well.

Doubts were cast on his availability for KKR in the ongoing IPL, and eventually the franchise named Nitish Rana as the replacement captain for KKR.

Iyer is an important member of the Indian Test squad, and would have batted at number 5 in the upcoming WTC final against Australia. The right-handed batter has scored 666 runs in 10 Test matches, at an average of 44.40.
