With the T20 World Cup 2022 just a couple of weeks away, England have been marred with injury concerns. Jonny Bairstow is already ruled out of the tournament following the freak injury, while the fans are also concerned about the availability of skipper Jos Buttler and all-rounder Liam Livingstone.

Both the players have been out of action since mid-August. Livingstone did not travel to Pakistan after suffering an ankle injury. Meanwhile, Jos Buttler was hopeful of playing the last three T20 Internationals of the seven-match series against the Green Army, but he did not recover on time from his calf injury.

As the Englishmen clinched the series by 4-3, the head coach Matthew Mott has given an update on the two players. Mott revealed that both the players will be available for the T20 World Cup.

The team management does not want to take any risk with two of their star players and thus, they are likely to make a comeback during the ICC event only.

In a conversation with Sky Sports, Mott said,

"Liam is tracking well. He'll be fine, he's just got to get some miles in the legs, and he should be right for the start when we get out there. Jos has been conservative; he was chomping at the bit at the back-end here, but the risk-reward wasn't quite there. He's going to play a pivotal role in the World Cup. We're pretty confident with where we're at."

Mott on Buttler’s role as a wicketkeeper

Further, the head coach also reflected on Buttler’s future as the wicketkeeper. It was believed that the batter will be abandoning the gloves to fulfill his captaincy duties properly. However, Mott ruled out such speculations, saying that the skipper will be the first-choice keeper for the side if he is deemed completely fit.

During The Hundred tournament, Buttler did not keep the wickets due to captaincy. However, the scenario did not favor the batter much.

The head coach believes that the Rajasthan Royals star has learned his lesson well as he feels that he gets the best view of the entire playfield from behind the wickets. Also, with Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali in the team, the 32-year-old can share some of his load.
