Former Indian batter and legend Sunil Gavaskar has expressed his thoughts on who he feels should replace current skipper Rohit Sharma as skipper after the World Cup which is due to happen in October-November.
Gavaskar who represented India during the 1983 World Cup mentioned that he expects Hardik Pandya to take the role on a full-time basis after the mega-event. Further, his point of view is that Pandya could stamp his authority on the position as the all-rounder has been terrific in whatever opportunities he has been given.
Further, according to him, the Baroda-born gives everyone an opportunity to perform with freedom and express themselves during the entire course of the game. Pandya's all-round ability is well-known and could be effectively utilised along with his captaincy skills to create an overall impact.
“What you see with Hardik Pandya as a captain is a sense of comfort with the rest of the team. Maybe, it’s the way he handles the players, puts his arm around the players. He just seems to give the players a sense of comfort. That’s so important to give a player a sense of comfort so that he can go and play his natural game. I think he encourages them, which is a wonderful sign,"
“Of course, the fact that he can be an impact player as well as a game changer in the middle order. Even for the Gujarat team, he was promoting himself up the order knowing that this is the time when the team needed some momentum and push, and he would do that."
Meanwhile, India will be playing a three-match ODI series against Australia beginning on the 17th of March.
