India's bowling has been struggling to pick wickets in the past few competitions, which has been a cause of concern for the management. With Jasprit Bumrah's injury, lack of penetration in the middle-overs is evident.

Several experts and former players have suggested Team India hone players like Umran Malik, Kuldeep Sen, and Mohsin Khan for their sheer ability to bowl fast.

Former India opener and World Cup winner Sunil Gavaskar heaped praise on Malik ahead of the second ODI. Speaking to the broadcasters, Gavaskar said,

"One player I am most excited to see playing for India after Sachin Tendulkar is Umran Malik."

In the ongoing three-match One-Day International series against Bangladesh, India roped in Malik as a cover for Mohammed Shami after missing out on the squad initially.

Malik, who is in the playing XI for the second ODI following Sen's injury, managed to disturb Najmul Hossain Shanto's woodwork for 21.

Before today's 50-overs match, the Jammu-born had appeared in three T20Is and as many ODIs for India since making his debut against Ireland in June 2022.
