Coming in with a hefty price tag of INR 17.5 crore, Mumbai Indians' (MI) Cameron Green did not quite live up to the expectations in his initial Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 appearances. However, on Tuesday against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Green showcased his skills and proved his detractors wrong.

Green scored his maiden IPL fifty and helped Mumbai's total reach a mammoth 192, remaining unbeaten on 64 in the process. The Australian also did wonders with the ball, claiming the crucial wicket of SRH skipper Aiden Markram, where MI won by 14 runs.

Former India opener Sunil Gavaskar has heaped praise on the young all-rounder for his batting acumen.

Green, who started slowly, scoring 20 off 18, upped the tempo in the backend of his innings, bringing up his half-century in just 33 balls, attacking both spinners and pacers, after Tilak Varma's fireworks came to an end.

Speaking to Star Sports, the former India captain lauded Green's awareness in particular.

Here's what Gavaskar said

"He likes pace of the pitch. He is brought up in Australia where there was a lot of pace bowling and not so much of spin bowling. So clearly, that worked. That's good thinking. You have to be proactive in T20 cricket,

"He started slowly when the spinners were on at that stage. So he took his time. But, when you have the shots that he has, you can take a bit of time, even in this format of the game. 64 off 40 is a very good return."

Green will next be seen in action for Mumbai Indians against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Saturday at Wankhede.
