The value of finishers in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 has reached unprecedented heights after Rinku Singh, Shimron Haytmer, Rahul Tewatia, and Nicholas Pooran's performances for their respective franchises. However, one team that has struggled in this department is Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), as seen last evening against Mumbai Indians.

SRH failed to score 24 runs in two overs, despite hammering 19 runs in the 18th over off Jason Behrendorff while chasing 193.

Head coach Brian Lara, who took over this year from Tom Moody, stated that the SRH middle-order is a 'work in progress' and needs someone like Tewatia or David Miller to finish off the game.

As quoted by Sportskeeda, Lara, speaking at the post-match conference, revealed that he always felt that the Sunrisers were in the chase, but the loss of quick wickets cost them.

Here's what Lara said

"It’s a work in progress. We need to have guys who are thinking the game throughout right till the end. There are some great examples in the IPL. Tewatia, Miller, we do need that sort of person to understand how to calculate going down, who are the bowlers going to come and plan properly.

We’ve been working on that. “We weren’t the best team today [Tuesday]. We have to accept that. Mumbai Indians was the better team today.”

The Aiden Markram-led side is highly dependent on their top order, with the likes of Mayank Agarwal, Harry Brook, Rahul Tripathi, Heinrich Klassen, and the skipper himself. Hard-hitting all-rounder Abdul Samad is yet to make his mark this season as well.

SRH will next go up against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk on Friday in hopes of moving up from the ninth position in the points table.
