Shakib raises eyebrows with controversial statement ahead of game against India

Before the game against India that holds massive significance, Bangladesh's skipper Shakib Al Hasan made a 'bizarre' remark that has grabbed eyeballs in the cricketing arena. The all-rounder has termed India the favourites, but what he said after this has caught the limelight.

He said that the Indian side is playing the World Cup with the intent of winning it, whereas his side is 'not' here to win the trophy. Furthermore, if Bangladesh gets the better off India, then it would be called an upset.

His statement is coming at a time when the Tigers are seen as serious competitors after their win against the solid Zimbabwean side, taking them to third position with as many as four points matching India's tally.

"India are favourites. They are here to win the World Cup. We aren't here to win the Cup. If we beat them, then it will be upset, and we will try to create an upset."

Bangladesh were comprehensively outplayed in the tri-series before the World Cup against New Zealand and Pakistan, which saw them return winless.

Their remaining games against India and Pakistan are must win if they are looking at a potential semi-final berth.
