Riding on sensational spells from pacers and a match-winning stand between Aiden Markram and David Miller, South Africa defeated India by five wickets in the 30th match of the ongoing T20 World Cup in Perth. The Proteas progressed to the top of the points table with this emphatic win.

Surya's fireworks power India to a respectable total

After opting to bat, India got off to a disastrous start, as Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul were dismissed by Lungi Ngidi within five deliveries.

Although Virat Kohli looked good for his 11-ball 12, he became Ngidi's third victim after miscuing a hook shot in the seventh over. Two dependable all-rounders, Deepak Hooda and Hardik Pandya, also couldn't do much, departing for a duck and two runs, respectively.

However, Suryakumar Yadav stood tall and fought single-handedly with the Proteas bowling attack with utmost bravery. His glorious 40-ball 68, glittered with seven fours and three sixes, was pivotal in breaching the 130-run mark for India, as they eventually finished on 133 for nine in 20 overs.

Lungi Ngidi was South Africa's pick of the bowlers, scalping four wickets for 29 runs. Veteran all-rounder Wayne Parnell also chipped in with three crucial breakthroughs.

Markram-Miller stand seizes the day for South Africa

Chasing 134, South Africa quickly found themselves down on the mat, courtesy of fantastic new-ball spells from Arshdeep Singh and Mohammad Shami.

While Arshdeep removed Quinton de Kock and Rilee Rossouw in his first over, Shami dismissed Temba Bavuma to push South Africa into further trouble.

But just when things seemed complicated for South Africa, Aiden Markram and David Miller stepped up, stitching a vital 76-run stand for the fourth wicket.

While Markram slammed an eye-catching 52, Miller supported him to perfection, scoring a fluent 46-ball 59* with four fours and three sixes.

Their astounding effort didn't go in vain, as the Proteas eventually hunted down the target with two balls to spare.
