Bangladesh picked up a much-needed win in the T20 World Cup 2022 against the Netherlands yesterday.

After being put to bat first, the Tigers put together a score of 144 with the loss of eight wickets. In response, the Netherlands were bundled out for 135.

Bangladesh will now look to build on their performance and end the Super 12s on a high.

Meanwhile, captain Shakib Al Hasan was not happy with the performance of the Bangladeshi batsmen in the game. Despite the win, they showed vulnerabilities which could prove costly against top quality opposition.

Bangladesh started well with a partnership between Najmul Hossain Shanto and Soumya Sarkar. However, they started to lose wickets in quick succession and were reduced to 76-5 from a position of strength (43-0 in 5 overs).

Although the Bangladeshi skipper heaped praise on the bowling unit, Taskin Ahmed in particular, he believes that the batters will have to step up in the remaining matches and give the bowlers a respectable total to defend.

Against quality bowling units, the Tigers have often failed to perform in recent months.

Shakib said during the post-match presser (as quoted by India Today):

"It was very important to get a win. I have played all the editions of (T20 World Cup) but we haven't won and that was in the back of my mind. We kept losing wickets at regular intervals and that wasn't helping us.

"We knew that 155 would have been a great total, we were 10 runs short. The fast bowlers bowled well. We understand the importance of fast bowling, we have found some very good bowlers."

Bangladesh will now take on South Africa on the 27th of October in Sydney.
