Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram, lavished praise on Indian batsman Virat Kohli for his match-winning knock at the Melbourne cricket ground on Sunday.

Chasing a total of 160, the Indian top order struggled to against the likes of Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf. Openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul were back in the pavilion soon and it came down to Kohli and all-rounder Hardik Pandya to guide the Indian team across the line.

Both players played their part to perfection and Kohli's unbeaten 82 from 53 deliveries ensured an epic win for team India under enormous pressure.

Speaking to the media after the game, Wasim Akram revealed that Kohli is one of the greats of the game and he has been proving his mettle over the past 15 years. He also added that the Indian star is the best chasing batsman on the planet.

Comparing the 33-year-old batter to an alien, Akram said (h/t NDTV):

"Aliens do walk among us, he's one of the best I've seen among the modern greats. Not just now, he has been scoring for the last 15 years and he has the best average while chasing."

Virat Kohli was in poor form since 2019 but he managed to hit a purple patch during the Asia Cup earlier this year. His return to form could not have been better timed and India will be hoping that their star batter can guide them to a World Cup win this year.
