Sam Curran reveals England’s stance for field obstruction in T20 World Cup 2022
Matthew Wade and Mark Wood during their altercation
Sam Curran has said that the England team would have appealed against Matthew Wade’s field obstruction, if the instance were to have happened in a World Cup match.
The Australian batter had shrugged off Mark Wood, in a seemingly deliberate attempt of preventing the English speedster from completing an easy catch. The incident occurred during the first T20I between Australia and England, which the visitors eventually won by eight runs.

Curran says situation would be different in T20 World Cup
England’s ongoing three-match series in Australia marks their final set of fixtures ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022 ‘Down Under’.
Sam Curran, who picked two Australian wickets in a high-scoring first T20I, clarified England’s stance on their refusal to appeal against Matthew Wade. Echoing his skipper Jos Buttler’s statements from earlier, the dynamic all-rounder said that his team would have complained if they were playing a World Cup game.
While speaking with the ACT reporters, Curran said:
“Maybe in a World Cup game... it might have been a bit different. In the moment, you'd hope they take it upstairs and the best decision is made because Woody bowled a nice ball there and he probably deserved a wicket and he's kind of got a little bit in the way.”
Notably, England will face Australia once again this month, albeit in a T20 World Cup match. The two sides are placed in Group A, alongside Afghanistan and New Zealand.
England’s contest against the defending champions will be played at the MCG on October 28.
