Ellyse Perry played the last of her 126 T20I matches for Australia back in October 2021. The all-rounder has since been overlooked from the team’s T20I setup for over a year. Among the notable events, she missed out on this year’s Commonwealth Games in England, where Australia claimed the gold by defeating India Women in the final.

Perry is now slated to reprise her role for Sydney Sixers in the upcoming Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2022 season. As it turns out, the cricketer is eying the tournament as a potential stepping stone to a T20I recall for her national side.

Ellyse Perry says WBBL a great launching pad for players

The 31-year-old recently labelled WBBL as a “great launching pad for all players”. The cricketer, who has been repeatedly overlooked from Australia’s T20I setup since the past one year, is currently aiming to use the tournament to make her bid for national return.

While speaking with the reporters, Perry said:

“Traditionally speaking the WBBL is a great launching pad for all players.

“With a few changes in the Australian set up, there is a really great chance for everyone to play really well and do their best to be a part of a really competitive Australian side.”

The Sydney Sixers will face the Brisbane Heat in tournament opener on October 13 at Mackay’s Great Barrier Reef Arena. Ahead of the annual event, here is a look at the updated Sydney Sixers squad:
