Delhi Capitals' head coach, Ricky Ponting, has conceded that opener Prithvi Shaw has been grappling with left-arm pacers and acknowledged that the team would have to assist him in overcoming this vulnerability. However, the Australian veteran further added that the opposition would also be well aware of this weakness, and the team would have to work on it collectively to avoid further shortcomings.

Shaw's batting was subpar during DC's recent fixture against Rajasthan Royals at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. After being brought in as the "Impact Player," he was dismissed for a duck, nicking a delivery from Trent Boult, which wicket-keeper Sanju Samson stunningly grabbed.

In the post-match press conference, Ponting offered his thoughts on Shaw's performance and acknowledged that the moving ball was causing him concern. Nonetheless, he emphasized that the young prodigy's preparation was commendable, and his performance in training was exceptional.

"If any of you guys were at training yesterday (Friday) and watched him bat, he looked like a million dollars. So, his preparation was great. It's probably something we need to think about," said Ponting.

The former cricketer explicitly stated that Shaw's deficiency against left-armers was something the opposition was undoubtedly aware of and stressed that it was a concern that needed to be addressed.

"He's got a poor record now against left-armers, it's something every opposition would know, it's something that we need to work on with him," added the former Australian skipper.

However, the Aussie legend also highlighted that the team would not blame any single individual and that everyone would have to work together to achieve better results.

It is pertinent to mention that in Delhi Capitals' first two matches of the tournament, Shaw scored 12 and seven. Therefore, the fortunes of the 23-year-old will significantly impact how far Delhi Capitals progress in the competition, and he will need to swiftly up his game to contribute effectively to the team's success.
