Fireworks from RR Openers, Trent Boult Hand 'Yet Another' Loss to Warner's Capitals

New day, but same old story for the Delhi Capitals as they lost their third successive IPL game. This time at the hands of Rajasthan Royals by 57 runs on Saturday.

It has been turbulent times for the DC franchise, who have gone downhill since the start of the last season. With a new captain and a new ray of hope, the team from Delhi have failed to live up to the expectations.'

Jaiswal-Buttler hunt Capitals' bowlers

The intentions of Rajasthan batters were at full flow right from the first over when Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed five boundaries in the first over of Khaleel Ahmed. The momentum was set by Jaiswal and the RR openers didn't look back as the carnage started and DC bowlers had no answer for it.

The first 32 runs of the Royals' innings came in boundaries and that justifies the domination that both Jaiswal and Buttler had at the start of play. It is not often that you see Buttler being outshined by someone, but such was the domination of Jaiswal that the Englishman took the back-seat and enjoyed the proceedings.

The young Indian batter completed his half-century in 21 deliveries and was eventually dismissed for a breath-taking 31-ball 60, laced with 11 fours and a solitary maximum.

Once Jaiswal departed, Buttler took the front-seat and was the chief aggressor. But the momentum was lost as Samson (0), Parag (7) departed in quick successions. The England batter, too, completed his second fifty of the tournament and was dismissed for a well-compiled 79. In the process, he became the holder of the Orange Cap.

Shimron Hetmyer provided the finishing touches as RR reached 199 for 4 at the end of 20 over mark.

Delhi fall short

Chasing 200, Delhi Capitals had a nightmarish start, as both Prithvi Shaw and Manish Pandey departed for the pavilion without opening their account. The chief destroyer with the ball - Trent Boult, who wreaked havoc in the first over and the Indian duo had no answer for him.

Rossouw had a decent start and struck a couple of boundaries, but Ashwin decided to spin his magic and got rid off the Proteas batter for 12. Warner struggled for runs at the initial phase, but got an able partner in Lalit Yadav, who surprisingly played the aggresor's part.

The tempo was up, thanks to Lalit Yadav as the boundary floodgates opened and a few nervy faces were visible in the DC dugout.

But just when DC saw a ray of hope, Boult came back into the attack and knocked over the stumps to sent back Lalit for a quick-fire 24-ball 38.

Axar Patel couldn't contribute much as Chahal foxed him and the DC all-rounder departed for just 2 on the board.

With wickets tumbling at regular intervals, Warner kept losing partners, but the DC skipper notched up his second fifty of the season and kept DC in the run-chase. However, Warner ran out of fuel as the DC skipper was sent home by Chahal for 65.

Eventually the target was too big to overhaul as DC lost their third successive game.
