In a recent development, it has been confirmed that the Australian superstar Ellyse Perry pulled out of the upcoming Women's Premier League (WPL 2026) season, citing personal reasons. Moreover, she has been replaced by the Mumbai all-rounder Sayali Satghare, at her reserve price of INR 30 lakh.
The 35-year-old has been instrumental in RCB’s previous campaigns, providing stability in the middle order and a reliable medium pacer. In their title-winning season, 2024, Perry finished as the tournament’s highest run-scorer, earning the Orange Cap.
Thus, her absence leaves a huge gap in all the aspects, including the much-valued leadership and the overseas player balance for the Bengaluru-based team.
That being said, let’s take a look at who the player is named as her replacement.
Meet Sayali Satghare, Ellyse Perry’s replacement for the WPL 2026
Born on 2nd July 2000, Sayali Satghare is an Indian cricketer who plays for Mumbai in the domestic setup. Satghare was also a part of Gujarat Giants in the Women's Premier League 2024 and 2025.
Notably, in February 2024, the Giants named her as a replacement for Kashvee Gautam at a base price of ₹10 lakh. In her maiden season, Satghare etched her name in history by becoming the first player to play her first WPL match as a concussion substitute for Dayalan Hemalatha.
After years of turmoil in the domestic circuit, Sayali finally earned her maiden call-up for the national team for the ODI series against New Zealand in October 2024. However, she didn't get to play a match.
Lastly, she made her One Day International (ODI) debut in the first match of the following series against Ireland on 10th January 2025. Notably, her maiden international wicket came against Irish cricketer Arlene Kelly.
A constant performer in domestic, now a shake-up substitute for RCB women
It is important to note that Satghare has engraved a name for herself in domestic circles. In 51 List-A games, she has accumulated 666 runs at an average of 20.81, including a match-winning century against Arunachal Pradesh during the 2023-24 Senior Women's One Day Trophy. Her contributions with the ball have been equally impressive, as she has claimed 56 wickets at an average of 20.60.
Her adaptability in shorter formats is another feather in her cap. Across 49 T20 matches, Satghare secured 37 wickets, boasting the best figures of 5/13 and maintaining a bowling average of 19.05. Her ability to rise to the occasion and make game-changing plays has made her a key figure in Mumbai's cricket circuit.
Perry’s absence will indeed cause a significant blow to the one-time WPL champions, who were substantially dependent on the Aussie. More importantly, it will be interesting to see how the 25-year-old Indian domestic star manages to fill such big shoes.
