Mumbai Indians ended their winless run this IPL 2023 season by triumphing over the Delhi Capitals. Fueled by Rohit Sharma’s run-chase masterclass, the five-time winners overcame the Capitals off the final ball of the match.

Tim David and Cameron Green ensured the Mumbai Indians went past the finishing line, after they had lost three wickets in a space of six balls, with 30 still needed to get off the remaining three overs.

Cameron Green hopeful of a campaign reboot with win

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma belted 65 at the top of the order while hard-hitting Australians Tim David and Cameron Green guided their side past the finishing line. Both David and Green scored handy runs at the death overs, and formed an unbeaten 30-run stand.

Notably, they took Mustafizur Rahman to cleaners in the penultimate over to leave the last-over equation down to just five runs. However, Delhi Capitals speed gun Anrich Nortje unleased five tight Yorkers to take the game down to the last ball before their eventual defeat.

After the match, Cameron described the intensity of the contest upon his arrival to the crease. He claimed that the run-chase pressure was there at the stage and hoped that their thrilling win kickstarts Mumbai Indians campaign this season, considering they suffered heavy defeats in their first two games. He said:

“There was definitely pressure there, but it was so much fun, to get ten an over, I mean it's moments like these are what you wait for, hopefully this (win) will kickstart our campaign. I knew I was gonna make it and the throw was high and I knew when the ball went to Tim's end he (Tim David) was gonna make it with his dive.”

Mumbai Indians will now face the Kolkata Knight Riders in their next fixture on April 16. The match will be played out at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
