Cricket West Indies President Ricky Skerritt was disappointed with the team's disappointing performances in T20 World Cup and vowed for a thorough post-mortem.

The Match 11 of the T20 WC 2022 witnessed two-time champions, West Indies crashing out of the tournament after losing to Ireland on Friday.

In a must-win game for both teams, the Caribbean team posted 146 on the board, with Brandon King (62) as the top contributor. They certainly lost wickets in a cluster and fell short of 15-20 runs of a good total.

In response, Ireland sealed the chase with more than two overs to spare, with impressive knocks from Paul Stirling (66*) and Lorcan Tucker (45*). Only Akeal Hosein could pick up a solitary wicket, while others failed to put enough pressure on the Irish batters. As a result, Ireland reached the Super 12 with two wins in three league matches.

What Skerritt said after the disappointment

In an official statement, CWI President Skerritt thinks the batters failed to prevail in the pitches assisting spinners, while untimely shot selections also put West Indies on back foot.

Skerritt reckoned that a perfect solution will be surely found out after analysis of performances, and added that no individual is bigger than the West Indies team.

“The ongoing inability of our batsmen to prevail over opposing slow bowling continued to be an obvious weakness in Australia, and untimely shot selections seem to be deeply embedded in the T20 batting culture of our senior team,"

“A thorough post-mortem will be carried out on all aspects of our World Cup preparation and performance, and that solutions will be found in keeping with CWI’s strategy to improve the quality and sustainability of cricket on all fronts, and in all formats."

In 24 T20I appearances in 2022, West Indies have managed to taste success in only eight of them, while one ended as a wash-out. A stern decision is expected from the West Indies board in the coming days.
