Australian cricketer Ashton Turner has recently revealed that the process of writing down his thoughts on leadership during a job interview transformed him into a better leader. Allegedly, the Perth Scorcher captain is looked out at as a candidate to lead Australia's T20I team after Aaron Finch's retirement.

The 30-year-old athlete explained that he was shortlisted for the Western Australia captaincy position along with Mitchell Marsh, but he could not justify his case during the interview, leading to Marsh's appointment as the captain of the team.

During an interview with cricket.com.au's Unplayable Podcast, Turner highlighted the importance of writing down one's thoughts on leadership and how it helps in getting a clear understanding of one's beliefs and values.

Regarding his own captaincy, Turner revealed that he has evolved as a leader, admitting that he was not considered a leader during his younger years. However, he believes that anyone can develop leadership qualities beyond their natural abilities.

"We can't pigeonhole anyone into a certain role, and anyone that we're able to come across and work with has potential beyond what they're naturally given at birth," said Turner.

Moreover, Turner believes that the act of writing down his thoughts on leadership was therapeutic, much like studying for an exam, and helped him prepare for future situations. He further emphasized that this is an essential skill that professional athletes do not practice enough.

The cricketer's comments have been widely praised in the sporting community, with many suggesting that it could help future leaders in the field. Turner himself has been successful as a leader, winning consecutive Big Bash League titles with Perth Scorchers and is on the verge of winning his third Marsh Cup Trophy.

The Australian all-rounder is well-known for his wonders against India in an ODI match in 2019; however, he could never cement his place in the Australian setup. Turner also gave his name for IPL Auction this year but couldn't find any buys. Meanwhile, in this weather of injuries, he might find a home in the IPL.
