"It's an absolutely mind-boggling event this" these were the words of the great Sunil Gavaskar when Sachin Tendulkar scored his 100th international century -  A milestone that will be surely written in gold as long as our beloved game, cricket exists.

The date was 16th of March, 2012 and the two neighbours India and Bangladesh were up against each other in the Asia Cup fixture. However, on the eve of the game, the talk of the town was majorly about one man - 'Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar'. The cricketing world was eager to see their maestro get that much awaited 100th international century and the suspense was growing with each passing day as Sachin was last seen raising his bat for a century on 11th of March 2011 in a World Cup game at Nagpur which means more than a year back.

The game started on a perfect note for all those eager fans as Mushfiqur Rahim asked India to bat first. Sachin Tendulkar walked down the park with Gautam Gambhir and slowly and steadily started accumulating runs from one end as the anticipation for his century started increasing. He got able support from middle order batters but none of them on that day had the determination and composure of Sachin Tendulkar to convert that start into a big one.

The moment finally arrived in the 44th over when he clipped a full delivery from the middle stump to the on side to take that much-awaited 100th run.

Ramiz Raza, the on-air commentator with Sunil Gavaskar at that time remarked as it being a special moment for the entire cricket fraternity. The whole stadium was on its feet and so were the billions of people around the world and though India went onto lose that game by five wickets as Bangladesh chased down the target of 290, the game would be forever remembered for the achievement that might never be touched upon again.

Sachin Tendulkar and his enigma has been unmatched over the years. From a 16-year old kid facing the fastest bowlers in the world to breaking almost all the batting records in the next 24 years that followed. Sachin has been a true legend, an ambassador of  cricket and an inspiration that would continue to inspire generations to come.
