David Warner's Ashes Dreams Alive Amidst Criticism

Veteran Australian opener David Warner had a horrendous tour of India, managing only 26 runs across three innings.

As if facing the rampant Indian bowling unit wasn't enough, the swashbuckling southpaw's stay in the South-Asian nation abruptly ended after he developed a hairline fracture on his elbow after being struck by a vicious Mohammed Siraj delivery.

So, Warner's poor run has not only earned him massive backlash but also put a big question mark on his selection for the upcoming Ashes in England.

However, the swashbuckling southpaw believes he still has much to contribute to the team and will happily take it if he is selected for the ultimate battle against the arch-rivals.

"I've always said I'm playing to 2024; if the selectors feel that I'm not worthy of my spot, then so be it, and I can push on to the white-ball stuff. I've got the next 12 months, a lot of cricket's ahead for the team and if I can keep scoring runs and putting my best foot forward for the team and I can help my spot, it'd be great for the team."

He also took a dig at critics for stereotyping veteran players as burdens on the team.

"It's easy pickings (for critics) when you're 36 going on 37. I've seen it before with the ex-players as well. So for me if I'm taking pressure off the rest of the other guys, and no one's worrying about the rest of the team, I'm happy to do that."

However, the experienced batter is still a vital member of Australia's white-ball setup and will return to India for a three-match ODI series against the hosts starting March 17.
