In August 2021, during a heated Day 4 of the second Test between India and England at Lord’s, a fiery exchange broke out between two legends of the game, Virat Kohli and James Anderson. Kohli shut up Anderson for being chirpy and urged him to instead focus on bowling.
The match was intense, and emotions were running high. India had a tough start in their second innings after losing openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma early.
Skipper Kohli, under pressure to deliver, looked confident at the crease but was soon dismissed for 20 off 31 balls after poking at a wide delivery from Sam Curran. However, before his dismissal, the drama unfolded in the 17th over.
Virat Kohli Slammed Anderson For Swearing In Lord's Test
In a heated moment, Virat Kohli and Anderson were seen exchanging words. It all started when the batter accused the fast bowler of running into the pitch’s danger zone, the area bowlers are not allowed to step on.
Anderson didn’t like the comment and responded sharply. Kohli, never one to back down, fired back and slammed the pacer for swearing at him.
“You swearing at me again are you? This isn’t your fu**ing backyard,” Kohli said.
He didn’t stop there. After the next ball, he added, "Chirp chirp chirp. This is what old age makes you.”
The tension added spice to the already competitive Test match. India declared its second inning at 298/8 after a brilliant 89-run partnership between tailenders Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah.
In the fourth inning, India bowled out England for 120 runs, courtesy of Mohammed Siraj’s four-wicket-haul and the men in blue won the game by 151 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the five-game series.
