Veteran Australian cricketer Nathan Lyon has added another feather to his decorated crown, as he dismantled the Indian batting lineup through a sensational bowling spell in the ongoing Test in Indore.

Lyon, who emerged as the wrecker-in-chief for Australia with the ball, equalled Richie Benuad's record for the most five-wicket hauls against India in their backyard. In this process, the wily off-spinner also completed 50 Test wickets on Indian soil.

Most Test fifers against India in India

  • Richie Benaud: Five fifers in 8 Matches
  • Nathan Lyon: Five fifers in 10 Matches
  • Saqlain Mushtaq: Four fifers in 3 Matches
  • Ian Botham: Three fifers in 7 Matches
  • Fazal Mahmood: Three fifers in 10 Matches

Earlier in the day, Australia crumbled and finished their first innings on 197, courtesy of an Umesh Yadav masterclass. Trailing by 88 runs, India had a poor start to their innings, losing Shubman Gill cheaply.

While Cheteshwar Pujara held the fort at one end, the other batters, apart from Shreyas Iyer, failed to support him at the other.

Lyon, who registered a magnificent fifer in the second Test in Delhi, emerged as India's nemesis once again in this game, scalping the crucial wickets of Rohit Sharma, Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, KS Bharat and Ravichandran Ashwin.

His valiant efforts proved decisive to push India on the back foot. As of writing, the hosts are staring at a defeat, being placed at 145 for seven, with Pujara and Axar Patel fighting it out for them in the middle.
