South Africa Women created history when they became the first Proteas team to reach the final of an ICC global event. South Africa came second best in the final of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2023, losing the title to defending champions Australia by nine runs.

Coach Hilton Moreeng, despite their narrow loss, believes that South Africa can clinch the title in the next edition, which will take place in Bangladesh in 2024.

Led by Sune Luus, the African side won three and lost three in the global showpiece, which prompted the coach to laud his players' efforts and ability to absorb the pressure of playing in home conditions.

According to Sowetanlive, Moreeng said that the current crop has left a massive imprint on South Africa's cricketing DNA.

Here's what Moreeng said

"It is very realistic, we have a very capable squad of winning the World Cup. The core of the team is very young and with the experience, everyone had in the past World Cup, they can only grow and learn from it and get better. Even the youngsters that were watching the U-19s are hoping to make the transition to the senior team, see what the standard is,"

Eight teams — Bangladesh (hosts), India, England, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, West Indies, and Pakistan — have gained automatic qualification for the ninth edition of the WT20 WC.

The remaining two teams will be decided by Global Qualifiers.
