SA vs WI: Kemar Roach's Fifer Sets The Tone For A Thrilling Finish To A Gripping Test Match

Riding on a sensational effort from their seamers, West Indies ripped through the South African batting unit, bundling them out for a meagre 116 in the second innings of the first Test in Centurion.

Chasing 247, the visitors have suffered an early setback, being placed at naught for one at lunch on day 3.

How the battle panned out?

The day began with South Africa reeling at 49 for four, with Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen battling out for them in the middle. They needed to start from the scratch in a bid to guide their team to the safe zone.

However, contrary to their expectations, the hosts had a disastrous start to the session, with Jason Holder removed Klaasen in the eleventh over.

Although Markram gave his all to resurrect the innings, the Caribbean spearhead Kemar Roach dismissed him to stun the home side.

Markram's dismissal opened the floodgates for the Proteas, as they lost Marco Jansen, Senuran Muthusamy and Gerald Coetzee in quick succession.

While Muthusamy fell prey to Shannon Gabriel, Roach cleaned up Jansen through a peach before knocking over Coetzee in the 26th over. The 34-year-old went one step ahead and registered a magnificent fifer to bowl South Africa out for 116.

Chasing 247, West Indies had a forgettable start to their innings, as Kraigg Brathwaite was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada for a three-ball duck.

So, moving on to the second session, the visitors would like to negotiate the new-ball spell and adopt a cautious approach in their batting as they have plenty of time to gun down the total.
